Another title design created for the Technicolor VFX Design & Motion Graphics Team, City of Angels is not officially affiliated with any actual series or film (I definitely would’ve changed the title had I known about Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, notwithstanding the Nic Cage/Meg Ryan movie of the same name). For this one, I thought it would be fun to invoke the feel of a hypothetical film noir, crime, fantasy, and/or horror story.
As with other designs done for Technicolor, music was not originally included, but I thought a bit of Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch’s score for Blade Runner 2049 was an awesome accompaniment to this title (also, thanks Vangelis). All CG was done in Maya, rendered with V-Ray, and composited in AE with additional effects and stock elements. Displacement maps were created with JSplacement. Additional editing (i.e. adding the music) was done in Premiere Pro.
